MARCIN JAHR

Marcin Jahr was born in 1969 in Bydgoszcz. His musical education in drums and percussion started in 1983 in the High School of Music (Music College) in Bydgoszcz in the class of Professor Janusz Mikolajczak. He graduated from the Music College in 1988 with a special award. He is also a graduate of the Academy of Music of Katowice in the Jazz and Pop Music Faculty in Professor Stanislaw Proksa's class (studies in 1988-1992). He received a Master of Arts degree in Percussive Instruments. His professional career started with the Jan "Ptaszyn" Wroblewski Quintet (1987). Later he would work with eg. Garrison Fewell, Nicolas Simion, Joachim Mencl, Piotr Wojtasik (the CD titled "Lonely Town" was recognized as Record Of the Year 1995 by the readers of Jazz Forum magazine), Mieczyslaw Szczesniak, Kuba Stankiewicz, Lora Szafran (the "New Representation" band), Karol Szymanowski, Brandon Furman and Jacek Niedziela, Piotr Baron, Zbigniew Namyslowski, Krzysztof Herdzin, Michal Kulenty and many others. He took part in jazz festivals both in Poland and abroad, eg. repeatedly in Jazz Over Odra River, Jazz Jamboree, Jazz Standard Festival Siedlce, "Museum Jazz" in Ostrow Wielkopolski, Pori Jazz Festival'87 (Finland), Istanbul Festival'93 (Turkey), '99 Euro Big Band of Matusz Jakabic (Bratislava, Croatia). The musician nowadays regularly co-operates with: Piotr Wojtasik, "Adam Wendt & Friends" quartet, Brandon Furman Trio, Wojciech Niedziela Trio and Quartet, "Wooden Soul Quartet" and "Jazz Poetics" of Jacek Niedziela, Wroclawian group Funky Groove, various projects of Jan "Ptaszyn" Wroblewski, "Bright Ella's Memorial" with Ewa Bem. Marcin Jahr also continues a didactic career eg. as a lecturer at Musical Workshops in Pulawy (annually since 1991), "Leichlinger Jazz Workshop" during the "Ost-West Forum" in Germany (1992, 1994, 1996), Musical Workshops in Pultusk (2002, 2003) and International Musical Workshops in Inowroclaw (2003).
